The University of Jos Students Union Government (SUG), on Thursday, raised the alarm over the continuous killing of students of the institution by hoodlums.

The alarm is coming in the wake of the killing again of a 100 level student of the institution, who was allegedly pulled out of a tricycle and stabbed to death around Bauchi road in Jos North LGA of the state.

DAILYPOST gathered that the student boarded a tricycle from the Permanent site of the University to the main campus, on the road he was pulled out and stabbed to death.

Addressing journalists in Jos, the SUG President University of Jos, Comrade Danladi Joshua Adankala, said that despite the development there was no known form of genuine commitment demonstrated by the Government in addressing this ugly trend in the State.

According to him, “We cry out but unfortunately it ends just on the walls of our social media account and platform because they are mere students whose lives mean nothing to the government.

“At the risk of being misunderstood, we dare to state that just within few hours of the unfortunate incident of 14th August, the security agencies combed the area and arrested more than 20 suspects as contained in the press statement issued by the Nigerian Police Force, Plateau State Command.

“This means the security agencies can be effective, but unfortunately, the innocent students of the University of Jos do not deserve such prompt attention and energy”, he lamented.

“Our tears for justice has generated nothing else than more pains, hurts, fears, sorrows and endless lamentations”, he decried.

“If we really have a government that can respond swiftly to the Rukuba Road incident, one wonders what is happening to us the Students of the University of Jos.

“This is no doubt an affirmation of the saying that ‘all animals are not equal’.

The students appeal to both State and Federal Government to as a matter of urgent priority expand the scope of transportation services available to students and staff both on and off campus.

Adding that, if the aforementioned is done, it will enable them to boycott the services of tricycle and motorcycle riders, most of whom are among our “attackers and killers”.

The Students also called on the University authority to establish a market or multipurpose store where basic foodstuff can be sold on campus.

“This will prevent us from unnecessary trips to the markets in the neighbouring communities where our economic impact is not even appreciated.

“As a matter of urgency, the state Government should appeal to the federal government to facilitate building of perimeter fencing of our institution.

“There should be more accommodation (Hostels) for students of the University of Jos, this will go a long way in reducing the number of student who stay off campus”, he stressed.

DAILY POST recalls that this is the third student killed in the last five days, since the skirmishes that claimed the lives of some commuters last Saturday at Rukuba road, in Jos North LGA of the State.
