Two students from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, have been arrested for suspected involvement in criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.
The Bauchi State Police Command made the arrest after receiving intelligence from an individual who reported a case of students assaulting their peers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, stating that the information prompted the Divisional Police Headquarters Yelwa to respond immediately.
“Bamusa Bako, a 25-year-old 400 level student of Urban and Regional Planning, and Yusuf Umar, a 28-year-old 500 level student of Industrial Design, both from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Yelwa Campus,” Wakil explained.
He further revealed, “Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by DPO Yelwa was dispatched to the scene to rescue the victims and initiate an investigation.”
According to preliminary findings, the suspects allegedly conspired to break into the residence of Raji Rabi’u, a 28-year-old 400-level student of Estate Management.
Wakil added, “They allegedly made away with, One 32-inch Hisense TV, One DSTV decoder, One woofer, One speaker, One pair of shoes, One blanket, One prayer mat.”
The police spokesman noted that the suspects have confessed to the crime and revealed that they planned to use the stolen items to fund their final-year project defence. Investigations are ongoing.
Wakil urged the public to report suspicious activities to nearby police stations for immediate action.
