1. A former presidential candidate in the last general elections, Kingsley Moghalu has said that Nigeria’s economy will not be transformed until the country is led by an intellectual and competent leader. Moghalu said this while reacting to the report of Nigeria sliding into another recession. According to him, COVID-19 pandemic is no excuse for Nigeria to slide into another recession.

2. The kidnapped chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Philip Shekwo, was on Sunday found dead. Report claims that his corpse was dumped around his home in Lafia. Skekwo was kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday.

3. The Police have confirmed the deadly attack on a mosque in Zamfara State by bandits. No fewer than five worshipers were murdered in the attack. The attack occurred in a farming community within Kanoma District of Maru Local Government Area. About 18 persons are still missing.

4. The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last election, Peter Obi, has called on his fellow politicians to put issues of 2023 aside and focus on how to rescue the country from the current economic crisis. Obi said that solving the economic problems of Nigeria was more important than political permutations geared towards the next general elections. He faulted the present government for using borrowed money wrongly.

5. Labour union representatives yesterday staged a walk-out from a meeting with the Nigerian Government. The labour union walked out of the meeting barely five minutes after it started. The president of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Quadri Olaleye, disclosed that the hike in the price of fuel and electricity tariffs were top on the meeting agenda and not issues of palliatives. He accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of dishonesty and painting the organized labour in bad light before the public.

6. FIFA has pre-selected two Nigerian referees to officiate at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. It picked Ndidi Madu as a referee for the tournament along with seven others from Africa which include Salima Mukansanga (Rwanda), Lidya Abebe (Ethiopia), Fatou Thioune (Senegal), Maria Rivet (Mauritius), Bouchra Karboubi (Morocco), Vincentia Amedome (Togo) and Dorsaf Ganouati (Tunisia). Another Nigerian, Mimisen Iyorhe was selected as an assistant referee.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the killing of Mr Philip Shekwo, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Nasarawa State. The President challenged security agencies to “do more” to end violence in Nigeria. The President in a statement by Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, ordered Police investigation into his death.

8. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has decried the upsurge of cult activities, violence and killings around adjoining areas of the Okoro-nodu flyover in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, declaring a total curfew in the areas. The curfew is expected to last for two weeks in the entire area along and around the Okoro-nodu flyover up to one-kilometer radius from Saint Emmanuel Anglican Church, Rumuokoro, extending to the Rumuodomaya Slaughter and Local Government daily market. It will take effect from Monday, 23rd November, 2020.

9. The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has condemned the destructions that followed the peaceful End SARS protest in October. He said the perpetrators must face the law. The former Rivers State Governor said it was legitimate to protest but illegal to destroy private and public property.

10. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday announced 155 new COVID-19 cases in the country. The health agency gave the update on its official Twitter page. This means Nigeria now has 66,383 confirmed cases of coronavirus, and 62,067 persons have recovered. The public health agency said death toll in the country has risen to 1167.
