A former chairman of the NBA Ekpoma branch and Ekpoma based lawyer, Osehon Irehovbude Esq, MCArb, has lamented over the rate at which lawyers are poorly remunerated in Nigeria.

Some lawyers earn as low as 15,000 per month in most law firms, some does not even earn at only while some law firm pay their junior lawyers based on commission.

Irehovabude made this disclosure following the way students of Housemanship who are not yet medical doctors are well paid.

He said “A medical Doctor on Housemanship is paid a minimum of #150,000 monthly and within a space of 12months he’s able to fix himself up at least with a decent accommodation and a good car and as well cater for himself, a lawyer after 10years post-call still struggles with his wig and gown on a motorbike and sometimes still sharing accommodation with friends and relatives.

“According to the estimation of the collective riches of members of the NBA every lawyer and not a selected few should be free from poverty, why then are lawyers poor, it’s time to investigate and put things right.”
