The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) on the 4th day of March , 2024 inducted over 1000 students of the Nigerian Law School as Associate Members of the Institute. This induction ceremony held at the Abuja International Trade and Convention Centre.
The Registrar of the Institute, Aisha Ado Abdullahi, FICMC in her address, expressed her immense pleasure and pride in welcoming the inductees. She highlighted the significance of the ceremony as a pivotal moment in their professional journey towards excellence in mediation and conciliation. The Registrar encouraged the new members to continue their pursuit of excellence in their practice, emphasizing the core principles of fairness, impartiality, and respect for all parties involved in dispute resolution.
The President of the Institute, Godwin Omoaka, SAN, while giving his remarks extended a warm welcome to the new inductees, applauding them for equipping themselves with Mediation skills that will aid them in assisting disputing parties in an assured, confident and professional manner.
The President urged the newly inducted Associate members of the Institute to uphold its high ethical standards and to represent the Institute positively in their practice of mediation. He encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to cultivate excellent professional relationships and to contribute meaningfully to the peaceful co-existence of various actors in the society and the world at large.
In closing, the President encouraged inductees to join a branch within their state of residence as this would afford them the opportunity to network and gain useful insights for their practice.
He assured the inductees that in the coming weeks, information regarding the Young mediators forum would be sent across to them. The forum would be designed to help them grow and seek mentorship opportunities.
