A haulage driver was on Monday shot dead by a policeman at a checkpoint in Ondo state.

It was gathered that the incident happened at Uso in Owo Local Government Area of the state.

The policeman whose identity is yet to be ascertained was attached to Uso.

According to sources, the driver was killed after a hot argument with the policemen on duty over N50 bribe, which led to the shooting of the driver at close range.

The incident subsequently led to traffic gridlock as many travellers were stranded.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Femi Joseph stated that investigation had commenced over the development, which he described as regrettable.
