Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama OFR, MFR, SAN has by a correspondence dated Monday, 12 December, 2022 brought to the attention of Mr Yakubu Maikyau, the lackadaisical disposition of some legal practitioners to compulsory security checks at the entrance of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.
According to Chief Gadzama, the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Abuja division, Hon. Justice H.S. Tsammani complained in open Court about the lax conduct of some legal practitioners towards compulsory security checks at the entrance of the court of Appeal. Chief Gadzama stated that as the most senior member of the Bar in Court on that day, he promised to inform the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association in a bid to curb the ugly trend.
Having not received any feedback, Chief Gadzama has written a kind reminder to the President of the NBA Mr Maikyau, to use his good offices in drawing the attention of every legal practitioner to the all-important issue of compulsory security checks at the Court of Appeal Abuja.
According to Chief. Gadzama, in light of the prevailing security challenges, it was pertinent for legal practitioners to not only comply with these security checks at the Court of Appeal, Abuja division but in all other Courts across Nigeria.
While the initial letter was delivered well over a month ago, Mr Maikyau has yet to respond/and/or provide any feedback on the all-important issue at press-time. From feedback, lawyers are not aware of Chief Gadzama’s letter and such acts by lawyers have continued unabated. This has prompted Chief Gadzama to write a reminder dated the 23rd January, 2023 with all the National Officers of the NBA, the NBA Abuja Branch, the NBA Bwari Branch, the NBA Garki Branch, the NBA Gwagwalada Branch and the NBA Karu/Nyaya Branch in copy.
