The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called on Nigerians to embrace the use of bicycles as a means of transportation.
This is as it organised a roadshow on major streets in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, as well organised a sensitisation of students and pupils of a private school in Port Harcourt, to mark the 2024 World Cycling Day.
Speaking after the roadshow, FRSC Sector Commander in the State, Christopher Kuje, said the World Cycling Day is a day set aside by the United Nations (UN) to recognise the importance of bicycle.
Kuje stated that bicycle is a means of transportation, which is affordable to both the rich and the poor, adding that as a means of transportation, bicycle removes obstruction from the road.
He said: “What we are doing today is United Nations’ World Cycling Day. It is a day set aside by the United Nations to mark the importance of bicycle. We want to appreciate the Rivers State Cycling Association for being there for us. To the glory of God, we have succeeded in carrying out this particular exercise despite the labour strike.
“We took off from here to Silver-Vallee Primary and Secondary School, where we talked to the students and pupils of that school on the importance of bicycle. From there, we did a road show down to Wave FM.
