FIDA EBONYI STATE BRANCH PRESS STATEMENT

Our attention has been drawn to the sad event that occurred on the 16th Day of December 2024, leading to the death of Mrs. Charity Nwafor, who lost her life as a result of domestic violence.

We are appalled, saddened, and deeply disturbed that despite the fights, sensitisation, and resources put in place by both International and Local Organisations, domestic violence is yet to be a thing of the past. This henious act is unacceptable and inxecusable.

FIDA Ebonyi State Branch strongly condems it and remain resolute in her fight against all forms of violence, especially gender based violence. Domestic violence is a serious violation of human rights causing harm to victims, their families, and the communities at large.

No one deserves to live in fear of violence or abuse, and to this end, we will offer all necessary support in ensuring that justice is served in this matter. This is indeed an avoidable death, we there urge the Nigerian Police force to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that justice is served and the culprit brought to book.

FIDA Nigeria and indeed FIDA Ebonyi State branch will not relent in her work to see that a culture of Zero tolerance for domestic violence is achieved where victims are safe and protected, and perpetrators are held accountable.
