The Federal Government has suspended 13 students of Federal Government College, Enugu State, following an investigation into a bullying incident captured in a viral video. The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, ordered the suspension based on a recent report showing severe bullying of an SS1 day student on November 7, which raised concerns over student safety and discipline in federal schools.
Folashade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations, shared that the Education Ministry had convened a disciplinary committee to address the situation. Based on the committee’s findings, the 13 students involved were given a six-week suspension while the investigation continues.
In addition to suspending the students, the minister directed the School-Based Management Committee to work closely with security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation. This includes looking into potential external influences and bolstering the school’s security protocols.
The ministry has also implemented counseling and rehabilitation programs to support affected students, with the goal of fostering a positive, safe, and respectful learning environment in federal schools nationwide.
