The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented Certificate of Return to Edo State’s Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, at its headquarters on Thursday.
Dignitaries in attendance included APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, National Working Committee members, and reinstated Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu.
On Sunday, INEC declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
The electoral commission declared that Okpebholo received a total of 291,667 votes to defeat his closest contender, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored a total 247,274 votes.
Olumide Akpata, of the Labour Party came a distant third with a total of 22,763 votes.
Okpebholo won in 11 local government areas out of the 18 local government areas in the state, while Ighodalo won in the remaining ones.
There have been allegations of rigging and vote-buying in the conduct of the election.
Yiaga Africa has also alleged that the results were manipulated by INEC at the collation stage.
