Elder statesman, Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu on Monday appended his signature to the Niger Delta Peoples Charter.

The Former President, Nigeria Environmental Society (NES), represents Rivers State on the signatory list.

Wai-Ogosu’s assent to the document followed that of the first signee, Prof. Ebiegberi Joe Alagoa.

The 88-year-old statesman and ex-University of Lagos (UNILAG) lecturer signed on behalf of Bayelsa State in Nembe on November 4.

The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) disclosed that 70 persons will ratify, including representatives of South-South ethnic nationalities and groups.

“The Niger Delta Peoples Charter will continue its journey to other Niger Delta states to collate signatures”, the body said.

The charter will be presented publicly on February 23, 2022, commemorating the 55th anniversary of the declaration of the Niger Delta Republic by Major Isaac Adaka Boro.

The document is demanding that oil and other natural resources of the region be controlled by the people.
