A family court in Oyo State has ordered that one of the teachers at Federal Government Girls College, Oyo town be remanded at Abolongo correctional facility.

The court, led by Justice Adetunyibi, gave the order on Thursday.

DAILY POST recalls that the teacher, identified as Alayoteti Oyebode, allegedly defiled a 14-year-old female student in the school.

The court on Thursday ordered that Oyebode, who was accused of alleged defilement of the student, be remanded at Abolongo correctional centre in Oyo town.

Our correspondent reports that the Oyo State Police Command had earlier arraigned the suspect on a one-count charge bordering on having unlawful sexual intercourse with the student whose name was not revealed.

Counsel to the accused, Barrister Oluponna Tunde, while speaking on Thursday, said the accused was charged for rape rather than defilement of the child.

But, the IPO in charge of the matter, told the court that the prosecuting counsel never brought a rape case before the court.

He said that the case is a case involving a minor which is purely defilement.

The court urged the prosecuting counsel to do further investigation on the allegation against the school teacher.

Adetunyibi consequently ordered the accused be remanded at the correctional facility.

The justice then adjourned the matter till the 18th of August, 2022 for hearing.
