-Says “I Want To Thank My Lord For The Well Needed Vacation She Gave Me”

Human Rights Activist And Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has been released from the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Uyo Facility.

Inibehe who exhausted his one month committal by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Obot, today, was seen in a Facebook Live video shared by Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, walking out of the prison facility.

Prof. Odinkalu in a tweet sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer via his handle, @ChidiOdinkalu, wrote: “Seconds ago, @InibeheEffiong stepped out of the prison in Uyo. The battle has just begun…. #InibeheIsOut #InibeheIsComing

In the live video monitored by TheNigeriaLawyer, Inibehe Effiong speaking moments after his release appreciated all those who stood by him during his incarceration.

He also informed the public that while in prison, he identified several pathetic cases which he will take up now he has regained freedom.

He further used the opportunity to allay the worries of his friends and well-wishers about his wellbeing.

He said, “If there was anytime in my life, I had proper rest, it was inside the correctional centre. I had the opportunity to sleep 8 hours a day, which I cannot get in Lagos.”

He continued, “So, I must thank my Lord the CJ for the well deserved vacation she gave me, as I coming back stronger and better.

I laugh at those who say when he comes out he will not talk again. The voice they wanted to silence, has become louder”.

Earlier Prof. Odinkalu had reported that the management of the Correctional Centre had insisted on Inibehe Effiong having a silent release from prison.

In a tweet he shared around 8am, he wrote, “#InibeheIsComing: The management of @CorrectionsNg in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State asked @InibeheEffiong to leave the prison silently at 6.00 hrs today. He’s told them world knew when he was sent in & must know as he leaves. They’re stalling his release because we’re here to get him.”

Inibehe Effiong is a vocal Human Rights Activist and Lawyer who was committed to one month in prison for contempt by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, on the 27th of July.

His incarceration had since generated controversies and drawn criticism to the judiciary, even as efforts by the Nigerian Bar Association and other Civil Society Groups to secure his freedom before now ended in futility.
