A popular hotel in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State has been demolished by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s newly launched security outfit, Agunechemba, after the discovery of no fewer than 30 graves, shrines, and numerous charms within the premises.

It was gathered that the uncovered graves contained decayed bodies, evoking memories of the infamous 1996 Otokoto saga in Owerri, Imo State, where the murder of an 11-year-old boy exposed a notorious ritual killing network.

Governor Soludo introduced the Agunechemba security outfit to combat the persistent insecurity in Anambra State, which has defied various previous interventions.

Although a senior police officer contacted for confirmation declined to comment, a member of a local vigilance group confirmed the development.

“Security is not something you make noise about. A lot is happening behind the scenes, and Anambra residents will soon heave a sigh of relief. The good thing is that all hands are on deck— the military, police, navy, DSS, Agunechemba, and Udo ga achi are all involved. We’ll get there soon,” the source said.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for further details were unsuccessful.
The operation, conducted on Saturday evening, resulted in the arrest of several individuals, including alleged kidnappers and sex workers.

Apart from rampant kidnappings and killings by gunmen, suspected ritual activities have been on the rise in the state.

Many of those involved in the activities reportedly present themselves as real estate developers and cryptocurrency traders, while others, including students, are said to be engaged in cyber fraud, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Yahoo +.’

Within the past week, no fewer than five buildings linked to criminal activities have been demolished across different locations in the state.

According to the state’s new homeland security law, such properties are forfeited to the government.
