In an interesting turn of events, the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) has congratulated the NBA President, Olumide Akpata on his victory at the NBA National elections which held about 5 weeks ago. The congratulatory message was contained in a letter dated 7 September 2020 and signed by Prof. Ben Nwabueze, SAN, the Chairman of BOSAN and Mr Seyi Sowemimo, SAN the Secretary of BOSAN.
In the letter, the body indicated that all its members offered their best wishes to Mr. Akpata for a successful tenure.
The body went ahead to mention that they were not unaware of the complaints that arose in the aftermath of the election, but expressed their comfort at the commitments the President made in his inaugural address to improve the electoral process of the NBA and bridge divisions caused by the election.
They further pledged their fidelity to the NBA and promised to offer all necessary support to reposition and reinvigorate the Bar.
The letter read in part “As stakeholders in legal profession and members of the Association, we continue to pledge our fidelity to the Association and to offer you all necessary support to reposition and reinvigorate the Bar. It is in the best interest of the Association that all stakeholders be involved in the measures being put in place to address the grievances of the disaffected participants in the last elections, with a view to achieving a wholesome reconciliation within the profession”.
It may be recalled that only yesterday, two of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria who had declined membership of the newly set up BOSAN Election Audit Committee had urged the body to work with the NBA and the newly elected President.
