Statement by Ferdinand Afam Naza, Candidate for the Office of National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association

It is with profound concern and deep indignation that I address the grievous incident involving the molestation of Mr. Eugene Isong, the Secretary of the Young Lawyers Forum (YLF) of the NBA Idemili Branch. The reported acts of tearing Mr. Isong’s jacket, subjecting him to public ridicule, and physically assaulting him with fist blows are not only reprehensible but also an affront to the principles of respect and professionalism that the Nigerian Bar Association stands for.

I call upon the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association to launch a thorough and impartial investigation into this incident. Those found culpable must face appropriate disciplinary measures to demonstrate that such conduct will not be tolerated. Additionally, I urge all members of the NBA to reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of respect, collegiality, and integrity.

To Mr. Eugene Isong, I extend my heartfelt solidarity and support. No member of our association should ever feel unsafe or disrespected. Let this unfortunate event galvanize us to strengthen our resolve in ensuring that every lawyer, regardless of their position or branch, is treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

In unity and justice, we can and must do better.

Ferdinand Afam Naza
Candidate for the Office of National Publicity Secretary
